Intruding into a conversation: how behavioral manipulation could support management of Xylella fastidiosa and its insect vectors

Abstract Behavioral manipulation (BM) is a multimodal control approach based on the interference with stimuli mediating insect perception and interaction surroundings. BM could represent win–win strategy for management of vector-borne plant pathogens as bacterium Xylella fastidiosa , since it reduce number vectors alighting host plants and, consequently, chances transmission to occur. In this review, we summarized current knowledge highlighted gaps in information (i) how X. general, more specifically meadow spittlebug Philaenus spumarius locate accept ; (ii) behavioral techniques be applied disrupt vector–host interaction. Finally, discussed diverse strategies combined other integrated pest tools protect olive groves from inoculation fastidious bacterium.
